How secure are you online?
Being cautious is normal, especially to us who knows the recent negative publicity about internet fraud, scams, phishing attacks etc. We all are hesitant to do transactions online and many of us still have doubts about the security of our internet.
We should keep in mind that there is no 100% proof that you are secured online - but we can at least minimize the risk by taking extra precaution about the things we do on the web.
HTTPS - the basic online security
The first thing to do is check the website's capability to handle https. If a site link is given (
http
://www.pitaqa.com), try to replace the
HTTP
with
HTTPS
(
https
://www.pitaqa.com).
Another method is to check browser's label address bar at the upper left corner where it usually shows the status "Secure" or "Not secure".
The following website is owned by a local celebrity in the Philippines but it's still using an unsecured connection. The administrators forgot or may we bluntly say "don't care" to implement the basics of online security.
In chrome, you can click the icon
to see the details.
It is now obvious that this site is unsecured. More security details can be found on the security options tab of your browser.
We have nothing against the site's owners: it's just that user's security will be at risk which may incur into fraudulent business transactions with this site.
Pitaqa already has implemented the security basics and provide its users the latest security encryption technology currently available in the market.
You can inspect pitaqa's security based on the aforementioned site.
Being aware makes a big difference by taking extra steps for your own safety and security.
Be mindful of your confidential data
Some site requires you to input your sensitive data such as your bank account numbers, credit or debit card numbers. Please be mindful of it and observe the site's behavior of their payment methods by hovering instead of clicking the links and scrutinize if it points you to a malicious site.
Pitaqa does not require you to disclose your financial information and in fact, we discourage it.
Following are the application usage tips to significantly reduce the risk of exposing your sensitive data online.
Do not put your full bank account numbers – but for reference purpose, only the last four (4) digits are enough.
Do not put your bank account name – put a more descriptive name such as "My Payroll Account", "My Savings Account", "My Credit Card Account" etc.
So with the mentioned tips, we can vouch that your financial data are still tightly secured. Even if you accidentally left your phone with your app still open then someone maliciously looks into your account, it will do no harm since the information you have provided are concealed and will never be exploited.
